Road Scholar Charter to Cuba

LLI at Virginia Tech members are back after a fabulous Road Scholar experience in Cuba! 21 of us traveled from Miami starting point to Cuba for the learning adventure of a lifetime. We met with artisans, musicians, experts on architecture/urban planning, U.S.-Cuban relations, social justice issues, biodiversity, and more, children, seniors, and young educated Cubans trying to find a future at this time of transition and change in their society. Everywhere we went we were warmly welcomed by their generous spirit and openness to our questions. We were touched by their optimism despite immense challenges; tremendous resilience through periods of war and revolution, then starvation in the 1990s; and their capacity to "resolver" (find a way to get something done regardless of bureaucratic rules or shortages of basic goods). And the Cubans have music and the arts in their souls! Ask any of us who went and we'll tell you more!
