Class Assistants

Contact Bev Walters (bfwalters@gmail.com) or Jerry Niles (jerryniles@comcast.net) for questions about class assistants.

Whether your class is on Zoom or in person, each class will be assigned one or two classroom assistants. Their role is to support you in any way that you find helpful. Typically, they help with material distribution, room set-up, communications, and class administration. Class assistants also make announcements from LLI concerning policies and procedures, and they handle the online end of course review. Class assistants are identified after registration has begun.

Course consultants

Contact Jerry Niles (jerryniles@comcast.net)

Instructors may request to be paired with a course consultant, an experienced LLI instructor with whom they can discuss their plans for the course and reflect on day-to-day  teaching. The relationship is entirely voluntary. Instructors and their consultants set their own agendas and agree on how frequently they confer.

Complimentary LLI class

Contact Pat Hyer (hyerp@vt.edu or 951-4968) or Lyndsay Lalonde (llalonde@vt.edu or 540-231-1725).

Instructors of courses 3 weeks or longer are invited to take advantage of a free one-term membership and complementary enrollment in one course.  You may enroll during the term you are teaching, or you may postpone this benefit to a subsequent term.  Please contact Pat Hyer or Lyndsay Lalonde to let them know what course (or special event) you would like to register for at least one week before registration begins.  Remember that some courses have small enrollments, so it is important to do this very early to ensure availability.

Copying

Contact Lyndsay Lalonde (llalonde@vt.edu or 540-231-1725) if you need copies to share with your students.

Although we encourage instructors to share class materials electronically, we can supply up to 25 black and white copies and/or 10 color copies per student if needed. Lyndsay will need a week’s lead time to fill your request.

Reimbursement

Contact Lyndsay LaLonde (llalonde@vt.edu or 540-231-1725) to request reimbursement for approved expenses incurred in teaching your course.

These expenses need to be specified in advance on the proposal form and reviewed by the program committee in advance. Please make sure you have original receipts for your expenditures to submit as they are required by Virginia Tech fiscal policies.  Finally, submit the request for reimbursement as soon as possible to ensure a timely response.

Technology

Contact Jerry Niles (jerryniles@comcast.net)  if you would like to visit your classroom prior to your first class to look at the classroom arrangement, test technology capacity, or practice getting your computer to project to the screen.

Jerry can help you adjust sound, get the PowerPoint and internet links functioning properly, and show videos. He is also your point of contact should you need help troubleshooting a technology problem later in the term.

Other needs?

Contact Jerry Niles (jerryniles@comcast.net) or Bev Walters (bfwalters@gmail.com) if you need help or resources beyond those specified here.
