LLI Teaching Venues

LLI Teaching Venue Descriptions

LLI's primary teaching venue is at the Corporate Research Center. CPE also books space in other locations to best match course needs. Below are our most commonly used teaching venues. To visit a classroom prior to the first day of class, contact Sally Blanchard (lifelonglearning@vt.edu or 540-231-1725).

VT Corporate Research Center (CRC)

The CRC has a variety of conference and seminar rooms. Our most commonly used classrooms are the Concept Room and the Curiosity Room.

The Concept Room, located at 1880 Pratt Dr, accommodates up to 36 participants comfortably. Seating is at tables and chairs, with chairs and tables easily configured to meet the needs of the class.

Projection presentation is supported by two drop-down screens and two ceiling-mounted projectors. The projectors are integrated into a centrally controlled presentation system with sound.

Special Characteristics: Wi-Fi is available for use by instructors and participants.  The room is on the second floor with elevator access if needed. A large number of wall and floor electrical outlets are available for use.

The Curiosity Room, located at 1900 Kraft Drive, is a first-floor conference room with a large conference table seating 18 and extra seating around the perimeter.  It has large screen video projection capability with Wi-Fi available. The conference table has electrical outlets for participants' electronic devices.

Blacksburg Community Center

Rooms are available in a variety of sizes, with large rooms offering the most flexibility in setup. Many rooms have a screen or television to support projection, but projection is dependent on LLI providing the projection device. Instructors may use their own laptops.

Special characteristics: Internet is available for the instructor and students. Water and sinks are available in several of the rooms.

Warm Hearth Village Center

Two rooms are available in the activity center: Tall Oaks, a large presentation room; and Woodland Studio, a smaller, seminar size room.

Tall Oaks can be set up theater style to accommodate medium to large numbers or in round tables of 8. It has a very large drop-down screen. It uses a rear projection system that is controlled by a computer that is provided by Warm Hearth. Presenters need to bring their presentation on a flash drive. Warm Hearth prefers that we use their computer. Lapel and hand-held microphones are available and operate through an effective built in sound system. Slide advancer is also available.

The Woodland Studio can accommodate 12-15 students comfortably. The room has six, six-foot tables that can be rearranged easily and 24 chairs. A portable screen is available and special arrangements need to be made with LLI for a projection device.

Special Characteristics: Internet is available for the instructor and class participants throughout the building. Arrangements need to be made ahead of tome to acquire the guest password. Technical assistance and set up is supported by Warm Hearth staff . A small café is on site and food and drink are allowed in the rooms. Room darkening is available in each room.

Christiansburg Community Center

A range of small, medium and large rooms is available, with projection supported in many of the rooms. Instructors should work with CPE personnel to make arrangements to have their classroom set up to meet the specific needs of the class.

Special characteristics: WI-FI is available for the instructor and students. Water and sinks are available in several of the rooms as well.
