Dates: Friday May 29 - Monday June 1, 2026

There will be two concurrent workshops held before EEID. The first workshop is by VectorByte and focuses on pipelines for Vector Trait and Abundance data. Application review begins on February 5th and participants can apply here: https://www.vectorbyte.org/blog/workshop2026

The official EEID workshop will emphasize building, analyzing, parameterizing and simulating spatial epidemiological models. Review will begin on Monday, March 2, 2026. Applicants can apply here: https://forms.gle/DbQDpxBSYjzJUvFP8

The official EEID workshop will be hosted by Virginia Tech from May 30-June 1, 2026, on our campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. This workshop immediately precedes the 2026 EEID conference.

The 2.5 day EEID 2026 workshop will introduce epidemiological modeling with a focus on spatial applications. The workshop will include training to develop, parameterize and simulate spatial models including integration with data. Simulation and analysis will be in the R programming language. This workshop is appropriate for participants who have working experience with R and beginning to intermediate knowledge on compartmental mathematical modeling.

Participation will be limited to around 15 early career scientists, primarily graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, with relevant experience and interest. Limited funding is available to support meals and accommodation during the workshop itself (including three nights of hotel, and breakfast and lunches during sessions of the workshop on May 30-June 1). There is no ‘fee’ to participate in the workshop. However, support does not extend to travel costs (e.g., airfare) or accommodation and registration for the EEID conference that follows the workshop.

In addition to the application form, applicants must provide:

  • A current CV (resume);
  • A brief personal statement on why they wish to attend the workshop (up to 1 page);
  • A letter of support from their immediate supervisor (indicating their approval for you to go, and how this would assist your project in particular).

Applications are due by Monday, March 2, 2026. We aim to have all decisions made and announced by March 25, 2026.
