Thursday Lunchtime Workshops

Banner that reads "EEID 2026"

There are two optional lunchtime workshops on Thurs, June 4th. All are welcome to join the Careers in EEID Panel (even if you did not RSVP). However, the teaching workshop is only open to those who applied and were accepted.

June 4, 12:15-1:05 pm Careers in EEID Panel (GLC Auditorium)
Those attending should grab lunch to go from Eggleston Lawn and return to GLC

"Careers in Disease Ecology and Evolution Panel": Hear from panelists with careers in a spectrum of institutions, including government, non-profit organizations, and higher education. What is it like having a career outside an R1 research university? What careers focus on research, teaching, or public facing work? What was their career path and what is their perspective on their place in the world of disease ecology and evolution now? Great for early career scientists, grad students, post-docs. Most of the time for this panel will focus on Q&A from attendees.

Organizers: Evie Rynkiewicz and Dana Hawley

June 4, 12:00 –1:10 pm   *Teaching Workshop (GLC Room C)- box lunch provided
*Only open to those who applied and were accepted

"Integrating EEID research into undergraduate courses": Led by experienced faculty at teaching-focused institutions, this workshop will provide frameworks and materials to integrate successful student disease ecology research projects into undergraduate courses. After a short overview, participants will experience sample materials from the student perspective while working with other participants in small groups. Workshop attendees will leave with materials and suggested frameworks to confidently deploy these approaches in their classrooms in a way that will enhance student learning of necessary course material and critical thinking skills. Be ready to work in small groups with other participants and practice in-class activities. This workshop will be very similar to the one held at EEID at Stanford in 2024, so we recommend this for participants who did not attend that already.

Organizers: Arietta Fleming-Davies and Sarah Budischak
